New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rainfall in Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Odisha and Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday. There is also possibility of heavy downpour in Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh today.
In Himachal Pradesh, the local meteorological office has predicted heavy rains in Shimla, Solan and Sirmaur districts on Wednesday and also sounded a ‘yellow’ alert for thunderstorms and lightning at isolated places in six out of 12 districts of the state.
Rain warning for Odisha, Goa
According to the IMD, heavy rainfall may lash 20 districts of Odisha for the next few days under the influence of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. Torrential rain (7-11 cm) accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is predicted in the 20 districts of the state on Wednesday. The districts that may receive heavy rainfall till September 26 include, Puri, Cuttack, Bargarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Angul, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Nayagarh, Gajapati, and Ganjam.
Goa which has been witnessing heavy rainfall since Monday night may experience heavy downpour today as well as the IMD has issued an ‘orange’ alert. Incessant rainfall in left several low-lying areas in North Goa district, including Sanquelim and Bicholim, waterlogged on Tuesday.
Rain forecast for these states
Meanwhile, the IMD has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall over west Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday and
east Madhya Pradesh on September 25. Chhattisgarh may also receive heavy downpour till September 26.
Heavy rainfall is also expected to lash Arunachal Pradesh Assam and Meghalaya till September 29, West Bengal, Bihar and Sikkim till September 27, Jharkhand till September 26, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura till September 28.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted in east Uttar Pradesh on September 28 while heavy rainfall may lash Uttarakhand on September 26 and 27, according to the IMD.
