New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that conditions are becoming favourable for the further withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from more areas of Rajasthan, Haryana, Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh in the next 2 to 3 days.
While the monsoon is retreating from these northern regions, parts of eastern, northeastern and southern India are expected to see significant rainfall over the coming days.
Cyclonic circulation
A cyclonic circulation is currently active over the Comorin area and adjoining Equatorial Indian Ocean. Another circulation exists over northeast Assam. This weather system are contributing to the likelihood of heavy rains in specific regions of the country.
Forecast for East and Northeast India
Over the next week, fairly widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected across the northeast region and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. West Bengal and Sikkim will also see scattered rainfall. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is predicted over northeastern states like Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from October 2 to 6. Arunachal Pradesh is expected to witness heavy rain from October 2 to 5, and Assam and Meghalaya during the entire week.
Forecast for South India, West India
In southern India, fairly widespread rainfall is expected over Kerala, Mahe, and South Interior Karnataka, with heavy rainfall likely in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Kerala between October 2 and 5. Coastal and South Interior Karnataka, along with Lakshadweep, will also experience heavy rain on October 2.
On the other hand, northwest, west, and central parts of India are not expected to receive any significant rainfall over the next week. These regions will likely see dry conditions as the monsoon retreats.
