New Delhi: The Indian Metrological Department (IMD) has predicted widespread rain in the country from August 12 to August 17. While northwest, west and central regions are predicted to get light to moderate to heavy rain, the east and northeast will receive heavy to very heavy rain.
The IMD has forecasted that the heavy rains will continue across north India, including Delhi-NCR, on August 12. This came a day after heavy rain lashed the entire north India, bringing the daily life to a grinding halt.
Red alert in Rajasthan, orange in Delhi
The weather department has issued a yellow alert for several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Odisha, West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, and Bihar. A red alert has been issued for eastern Rajasthan. An orange alert has been issued for Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and North Eastern states.
Very heavy rainfall over Punjab
Widespread rain will lash the entire region from August 12 to August 17. While, isolated heavy rainfall is expected over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan, the IMD has also predicted very heavy rainfall over Punjab, Haryana, Himachal and Uttarakhand. Due to heavy rains in Rajasthan, schools have been closed on Monday. The District Collector of Jaipur has instructed the Chief Education Officer to declare a holiday on Monday.
In Rajasthan, 12 people died due to due to drowning on Sunday.
Himachal Pradesh has been severely affected, with over 280 roads closed due to landslides and flash floods.
In Punjab, eight people died after the vehicle they were travelling in fell into the Chhoti Parsati rivulet in Jaijon, Hoshiarpur.
Heavy rain to continue in west and central India
While, scattered light to moderate rainfall rainfall is very likely over the region during the whole week, heavy rain is expected over Madhya Pradesh, Konkan and Goa also during the week.
East and northeast India
The IMD has predicted heavy rainfall over Arunachal, Assam, Meghalaya and Bihar during the whole week.
Very heavy rainfall is also very likely over the northeast region, Bihar on August 12.
South peninsular India
The region would witness heavy to very heavy rainfall from August 12 to August 15.
