New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted widespread rainfall across various regions of India, with significant downpours expected in parts of the East, Northeast, and Southern Peninsular regions. The forecast highlighted moderate to heavy rainfall in these areas over the coming week, with some states likely to experience very heavy or extremely heavy rainfall.
Northeastern states such as Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh are on alert for isolated extreme rainfall, while states in Southern India like Kerala and South Interior Karnataka are also likely to receive widespread showers. Meanwhile, Northwest, West, and Central India are expected to remain relatively dry.
Northeast and East India weather forecast
The Northeast region is likely to see fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rainfall throughout the week. States such as Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh are expected to experience isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall on October 4, with some regions potentially facing extremely heavy showers. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim are also predicted to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall on the same day.
Meanwhile, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura could face heavy rainfall on October 5, while the rest of the Northeast will likely see scattered showers over the next week. In East India, Gangetic West Bengal and Bihar are also predicted to experience isolated heavy rainfall on October 5. The Andaman & Nicobar Islands, along with West Bengal and Sikkim, will receive light to moderate rainfall in the next two days, followed by scattered rainfall in the subsequent days.
South Peninsular India weather forecast
Southern states are gearing up for widespread rainfall in the coming week. Kerala, Mahe, and South Interior Karnataka are expected to see light to moderate rainfall throughout the week. Scattered to fairly widespread showers are also likely in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Coastal Karnataka, North Interior Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalaseema.
Isolated heavy rainfall is predicted for Rayalaseema on October 5, as well as South Interior Karnataka from October 5 to 8. Kerala, Mahe, Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry are likely to face similar conditions from October 5 to 9.
Dry conditions in Northwest, West and Central India
Northwest, West, and Central India are not expected to receive any significant rainfall over the next week. These regions will remain relatively dry, with clear skies expected for most of the coming days.
