IMD issues ‘extremely heavy rain’ alert for Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand

IMD weather forecast: Heavy rainfall likely in Chhattisgarh, MP in next few days

New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rainfall in several states in India this week.

Southern, northeastern and central parts of India will experience widespread showers, with isolated areas likely to receive extremely heavy rainfall. 

Heavy rain forecast for Northeast India

Southern India, particularly Coastal Karnataka, Kerala and Lakshadweep, will see widespread light to moderate rainfall, while Telangana and Coastal Andhra Pradesh are likely to get scattered rainfall. Regions like Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karnataka’s interior areas will also witness isolated to scattered showers.

In East and Northeast India, states like Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam, and West Bengal are expected to receive fairly widespread rainfall during the week, with some areas likely to experience extremely heavy downpours on September 13 and 14.

Extremely heavy rain in Madhya Pradesh on September 12

In central India, heavy rainfall is forecasted for Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, with isolated areas of West Madhya Pradesh likely to see extremely heavy rain on September 12. States like Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra may receive moderate to heavy rainfall as well. 

Similarly, in the northwest, regions like Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh and East Rajasthan will experience widespread showers, with isolated extremely heavy rain in some parts from September 12 to 15. 

The IMD also forecasted extremely heavy rains over West Madhya Pradesh, West Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand from September 12 to 14. The rains could trigger landslides in hilly regions like Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.
