IIT Madras retains No 1 position in NIRF ranking 2024; Check full list of top institutes in India

Chennai: For the eighth year in a row, IIT Chennai has been named India’s top educational institution by National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings. IITs continue to dominate the rankings even this year too, with many making it into the top 10 overall. IIT Madras was followed by the Indian Institute of Science (IISC), Bangalore at the second position, followed by IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi and IIT Kanpur at the third, fourth and fifth positions respectively. IIT Kharagpur was ranked sixth, AIIMS Delhi seventh, IIT Roorkee and IIT Guwahati secured eighth and ninth places. Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) was ranked 10th in the NIRF rankings.

This year’s ninth edition of NIRF’s ranking introduces three new categories: ‘Open Universities,’ ‘Capacity Universities,’ and ‘State-Funded Public Universities.’ AICTE chief Anil Sahasrapude also announced plans by the ministry to launch ‘sustainability rankings’ from next year.

Jamia Millia Islamia has retained the 3rd position in the university category for the third year in a row. Jamia Hamdhart emerged as the best university for pharmacy.

IIM Ahmedabad is ranked as the best business school in India, with two IITs in the top 10 for management courses.
AIIMS Delhi ranks first in medical courses while IIT Roorkee in Uttarakhand ranks first in architecture courses.

JSS College of Pharmacy in Ooty featured among pharmacy institutes. Only one from Tamil Nadu.
