New Delhi: Two bodies have been recovered after an Indian Coast Guard (ICG) helicopter crashed into the Arabian Sea off Gijarat’s Porbandar coast on Monday night. Search operations are still underway to locate the missing commandant.
“Out of the three missing crew members, the bodies of two of them, Commandant Vipin Babu and P/NVK Karan Singh, have been recovered. Search operations for Commandant Rakesh Kumar Rana are still underway,” said Porbandar Coast Guard DIG Pankaj Agarwal.
The helicopter was on a rescue mission when it crashed at around 11pm. It was evacuating an injured crew member on a boat in the Arabian sea. One crew member was rescued on Monday night itself.
“On 02 Sep 2024, India Coast Guard ALH helicopter was launched at 2300 hrs to evacuate an injured crew member from the Motor Tanker Hari Leela off Porbandar, Gujarat. The helicopter had to make an emergency hard landing and ditched into the sea. One crew member recovered, search for the remaining three crew members is in progress,” the ICG had said in the statement posted on X.
Four ships and two aircraft had been deployed to search for the missing crew members.
