New Delhi: Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi encountered yet another microphone glitch while addressing an event to mark Constitution Day in New Delhi on Tuesday. The programme took an unexpected turn when the Congress leader’s speech was abruptly disrupted midway.
Rahul Gandhi started his address by holding up a copy of Constitution, and launched an attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi stating that the PM has never read the book. The Congress leader faced a technical glitch as his mic went off in the middle of the speech for around 10 minutes. As the organisers were seen scrambling on the stage trying to fix the problem, Rahul Gandhi stood composed and smiling at the podium.
As the glitch was fixed, Rahul Gandhi pointed out that no matter how many times his microphone is switched off, he will continue to talk about the issues.
‘He wanted to speak, but his voice was also taken away’
“In this country for the last 3,000 years whoever talks about Dalits, tribals, backward classes, poor, faces attempts to silence their voice. When the mic was switched off, a lot of people came and told me to go and sit. My microphone may be switched off, but I will not stop speaking,” Rahul Gandhi said. Mentioning the late Rohith Vemula, Rahul Gandhi underlined, “He wanted to speak, but his voice was also taken away.”
This is the second time in a week such a technical disruption involving the Congress leader occurred. Five days back, during a press conference while levelling allegations against industrialist Gautam Adani, a sudden power outage caused disruption in his remarks. Then, Gandhi had humourously remarked, “Adani power, Modi power—who knows which power this is? But they’re one and the same.”
However, the BJP, responded with a swipe. Party spokesperson Sambit Patra suggested that the power outage at Gandhi’s press conference might have been orchestrated internally. He said, “Rahul Gandhi keeps repeating the same thing in press conference. There was a power cut during his press conference for which he again blamed Adani and PM Modi. It’s his office, his electricity … I think his own people must have cut the power. I think Jairam Ramesh must have cut the power.”
