New Delhi: Putting all speculations to rest, former Jharkhand chief minister Champai Soren on Wednesday announced that he had decided to float a new political party ahead of state assembly elections.
Talking to reporters on Wednesday, Champai said, “I had three options – retirement, organisation, or friend. I will not retire; I will strengthen the party, a new party, and if I meet a good friend on the way, then will move ahead with them.” His comment indicated that he was open to alliances in the future.
When asked that there was not much time left for floating a new party before the state goes to polls, Champai said,
“When 30,000-40,000 workers can arrive within a day, then what problem will I have in forming a new (political party).” He pointed out that the party will be formed within a week.
Champai Soren was made the Jharkhand CM after Enforcement Directorate arrested Hemant Soren. After Hemant walked out of jail, he took over the reins of CM again on July 3 and Champai was forced to quit. However, recently Champai had said that he had been “bitterly humiliated” by the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) during his tenure as CM. His government programmes scheduled for the first week of July were suddenly scrapped by the party leadership without his knowledge.
Earlier, after he voiced his dissatisfaction, there was buzz that he was likely to join the BJP. According to sources on Tuesday, the BJP was in a wait and watch mode and was assessing the pros and cons of taking him into the party fold.
