New Delhi: The row over BJP leader Ramesh Bidhuri’s statement about Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi continues to grow. After facing backlash, Bidhuri expressed regret on X.
He said, “Some people are making statements on social media for political gain with a wrong perception of the statement given by me in some context. I did not mean to insult anyone, but still, if anyone has been hurt, then I express regret.”
Bidhuri’s controversial remark
Just hours before this tweet, Bidhuri had refused to apologize and instead demanded that Congress first seek an apology from Lalu Prasad Yadav for similar past remarks. He maintained that the Congress should own up to its past statements before criticizing others. “Whatever language they use, the same will be answered. The one who made the mistake will apologize first,” he said.
During an election rally in Delhi, Bidhuri had commented on the condition of roads in the Kalkaji constituency. Referring to a past statement by Lalu Yadav about making Bihar’s roads as smooth as actress Hema Malini’s cheeks, Bidhuri remarked, “Lalu Yadav lied, but I assure you that all roads in front of Kalkaji’s Sudhar Camp and inside it will be made like Priyanka Gandhi’s cheeks.”
Criticism from Opposition
The remark sparked widespread criticism from political leaders. Congress leaders, including Pawan Khera, strongly condemned the comment. Khera wrote on X, “This rudeness does not only show the mentality of this vile man. This is the reality of his masters, and above all, you will see the values of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh in these petty leaders of BJP.”
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also criticized the statement, accusing Bidhuri of disrespecting women and using inappropriate language in political discourse.
