The Koreans have been killing it with their EVs. In a world that every manufacturer is hard wired to make a soulless blob of metal which doesn’t actually solve the problems related to the environmental degradation. We don’t need 5 ton electric SUVs on our roads and rather small fun cars.
Hyundai has pulled the nail from the coffin of EVs and are making really desirable vehicles which even enthusiasts can get behind. The RN24 concept is another one of those experiments which we would love to become a reality. Cooked up in Hyundai’s rolling lab series, the RN24 features the same drivetrain motors as the IONIQ 5 N but there is barely any IONIQ 5 N left in the car.
Its a bespoke chassis, and all there is to the car is the chassis because the RN24 looks like something from the world of open-wheel racing with just roll bars. There are barely any body panels but there is no need for any body panels because this is an all in all smoke machine. It weighs 1,880 kgs and has a shorter wheelbase than the IONIQ 5 N. Even then, it still has the 84 kWh battery pack. Many parts are borrowed from Hyundai’s racecars like the massive rear wing and the Powertrain Drive Control Logic system. The driver can choose where he wants the power from the electric motors to be and alter it on their steering wheel.
The RN24 is a proper tyre shredder and it will do 0-100 kmph in a mere 3.4 seconds and achieve a top speed of 240 kmph. Now, Hyundai has said that this is not a production vehicle but it does give us a look into Hyundai’s future products and how they are working quite hard to prove that EVs are as fun as any other car if they are done right. This is something we want from all the manufacturers and the underdogs have completely taken over the market.
