Hyderabad: On Sunday, the Hyderabad Police arrested a total of 140 people on the charge of engaging in ‘illegal activities’ at a pub in the Banjara Hills area. Among the arrested individuals consists of 40 women.
After the police received a piece of information about the activities, they carried out a raid at the TOS pub and sealed its premises. Cases against 20 people, half of which are women, have been registered.
Case registered under multiple sections
As reported by ANI, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Venkat Ramana said, “We conducted raid on a pub at Road No. 3 in which 100 men and 40 women have been arrested for engaging in illegal activities at the pub.”
He added, “The pub has been sealed and cases under various sections have been registered. The pub owners, DJ operators and other members of the pub are among the arrested people.” Section 420 (dishonestly inducing delivery of property), 290 (Public nuisance) and 294 (Obscene acts and songs) are the sections imposed on the arrested individuals.
Obscene dance performances
As per a report by India Today, ‘inappropriate dance performances’ at he pub was the main reason for the raid. According to the allegations, to boost the profit, the owners of the pub employed women from many states for performing ‘obscene’ dances to ‘attract’ male customers. The report states that before the raid, the police conducted surveillance for ‘illegal activities’ in the pub. After the activities were confirmed, the police raided the pub.

The Hyderabad police has been running a drive against illegal activities across the nightlife venues with the aim of eliminating them and maintaining law and order. Many such crackdowns are expected in the upcoming days by the police.
