Hyderabad: With Diwali just around the corner, sweet shops throughout Hyderabad are witnessing eager customers looking to indulge in festive treats. However, in a bid to ensure food safety, the Telangana Commissioner of Food Safety’s Task Force teams conducted inspections in the Ameerpet area on Thursday. Their findings revealed several hygiene violations at some well-known sweet shops.
The details about the raid were shared via Commissioner of Food Safety, Telangana’s official X (formerly Twitter) account along with images of violations from the sweet shops.
Multiple violations at Delhi Mithaiwala in Ameerpet
At Delhi Mithai Wala, inspectors found that the shop lacked crucial documentation, including medical fitness certificates and water analysis reports. Additionally, there was no FOSTAC-trained supervisor present. The shop’s hygiene was further called into question when inspectors noted that the doors and windows were not equipped with insect-proof screens. Expired food items, such as peanuts and pan matri, were discovered in the kitchen, along with unlabelled curd and milk. Sugar bags were found stored directly on the floor, which violated safety regulations. To make matters worse, rat droppings were spotted in the storeroom, and open dustbins were seen inside the kitchen.

Raid at Agra Sweets
Agra Sweets faced its own issues during the inspection, as it was found to be operating under a registration instead of the necessary State license. The FSSAI registration was not displayed, and food handlers were seen without proper protective gear like headcaps, gloves, and aprons. Expired products, including chivda and bhadung bhel, were identified and promptly discarded. The inspectors also found unlabelled, ready-to-eat snacks that were removed from sale.

Vinuthna foods operating without a valid license: FSSAI
At Vinuthna Foods, inspectors noted that the shop was functioning with an expired registration certificate instead of a valid State license. Many ready-to-eat savouries were unlabelled, and food handlers lacked the required headgear and aprons. Furthermore, there were no records of pest control or proper documentation for food procurement, and inadequate storage facilities were observed.

Vasi Reddy Home food also booked for violations
Vasi Reddy Home Foods also fell short during the inspection, as the FSSAI registration copy was not displayed, and the establishment operated under a registration rather than a State license. Food handlers in the storeroom were observed without headcaps, gloves, or aprons. Medical fitness certificates and pest control records were absent, and unlabelled savouries and pickles that were ready for sale raised further concerns.
