Hyderabad: An 8-foot-long Indian Rock python was rescued from the crust gate of Osmansagar reservoir on Sunday, reports said.
A snake rescue organisation, Friends of Snakes Society (FOS), was alerted by HMWSSB staff, who spotted the 20-pound python. The organisation rushed to the spot after the call and rescued it.
Risky snake rescue operation:
It was found entangled in the crust gate and due to the delicate location and its massive size, the rescuers faced significant challenges. The rescuer Vara Prasad, unfazed by the challenge, pulled the snake out of the gate with the help of a rope, restraining the snake’s head to prevent damage.
Even as challenges mounted through the rescue operation, with the python wrapping itself around his hand, and Vara Prasad unable to climb out, fellow members of the organisation helped him in pulling him and the python up to the surface.
Ashwin Vishwanathan, senior official of the FOS said that it was a risky operation and they managed to act fast and save the python.
The rescuers handed the python to the Nehru Zoological Park authorities to care for it and eventually release it into the wild.
Water board staff praised FOS officials for their bravery and expertise.
