Devprayag: On Monday morning, a truck plunged into the Ganga River near Sainik Hotel in Devprayag on the Rishikesh Badrinath Highway. After this accident, the truck driver and his wife are feared to have drowned in the river.
Later, the state disaster response force was informed to conduct a search operation. For the search operation, the police have asked the authorities to reduce the water level in Tehri and Srinagar dams to search for the two.
People laying cables suspected the vehicle drowned into the river
In this matter, Devprayag station in-charge Mahipal Singh Rawat reported that on Monday morning, about four kilometers ahead of Devprayag, people laying cables noticed a broken tree near the road parapet and towards the ditch, suspecting a vehicle might have fallen into the river. When Station in-charge Rawat and the police team arrived at the scene, they found the rear part of a truck on the bank of the Ganga, approximately 120 meters below the road, while the cabin of the truck was submerged in the river.
Truck had left for Gopeshwar from Biharigarh
When the police contacted the vehicle owner Tinku, it was learnt that the truck had left for Gopeshwar from Biharigarh carrying mineral water bottles. The driver Ajay, 38 years old from Najibabad, UP was accompanied by his wife Rajeshwari. Rajeshwari Augustmuni runs a shop in Rudraprayag. She also went with her husband on Sunday night.
