Pauri: The Hunter house, which is supposed to make locals aware about leopards’ behaviour in Pauri district, will be opened within a month. The district magistrate Ashish Chauhan, who recently inspected the hunter house, located close to the Pauri district headquarters, has constituted a team which will accommodate the officers of tourism, forest, and education departments, besides the famous shooter Joy Hukil.
Hukil is a famous shooter who is known for killing 36 leopards in the past. He is also referred to as a brand ambassador of the Pauri district which of late witnessed the man-animal conflicts. Hukil’s one quality is that he never received training to stay in the forest.
Plan to organize live “story-sessions”
Hukil is likely to be tasked to share his experiences with locals as well as tourists coming to Pauri district at the proposed hunter house. He has a vast experience of the forest areas, and he is expected to give tips to local people- living with leopards with the spirit of co-existence. There is also a plan to organize live “story-sessions” in which Hukil can share his experiences in the forest and his realization to conserve leopards. The committee, which DM Chauhan has constituted, will submit its report to him within a month. The main objective behind setting up the hunter house is to make people aware about the leopards’ behaviour. It will also help reduce the man-animal conflicts in Pauri district.
This center will be helpful in the conservation of leopards
At this center, detailed information will be given to locals about leopards and their behaviour. The center will hold exhibitions displaying the leopards’ living conditions, and the measures required for their conservation. Moreover, the locals will be taught how to stay safe with the leopards. Hunter house will mainly serve two purposes- promotion of tourism as well as wildlife conservation. This center will be helpful in the conservation of leopards, besides making people sensitive towards leopards. It will be helpful in reducing the risk of leopards and giving correct information about them.
