Mumbai: Devendra Fadnavis is set to be sworn in as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra on Thursday evening (December 5). The announcement comes after days of suspense following the state assembly election results.
Fadnavis, who was chosen as BJP’s group leader during a meeting chaired by Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Mumbai, will assume the position for the fourth time.
Mahayuti’s historic victory in Maharashtra polls
BJP-led alliance, Mahayuti, achieved a historic victory in the assembly elections, with Fadnavis playing a crucial role. His leadership was instrumental in securing a strong wave of support for the BJP across the state. Representing South-West Nagpur assembly constituency, Fadnavis won by a significant margin.
In accordance with electoral requirements, Fadnavis filed an affidavit disclosing his and his family’s wealth. The affidavit reveals that the Fadnavis family possesses assets amounting to Rs 13.27 crore. His income for the financial year 2023-24 was stated as Rs 79.30 lakh, slightly lower than the Rs 92.48 lakh declared for 2022-23.
Fadnavis family’s financial details
The family’s financial details include cash holdings and bank account balances. Fadnavis has Rs 23,500 in cash and Rs 2.28 lakh in his bank account, while his wife, Amrita, has Rs 10,000 in cash and Rs 1.43 lakh in her account.
Fadnavis has invested Rs 20.70 lakh in schemes such as National Savings Scheme, Postal Savings, and insurance. Additionally, he has Rs 17 lakh deposited in his NSS account and Rs 3 lakh in LIC. Amrita, on the other hand, holds investments worth Rs 5.62 crore in shares, mutual funds and other financial instruments.
The couple also owns substantial assets in gold and immovable property. Fadnavis possesses 450 grams of gold jewellery, valued at Rs 32.85 lakh, while Amrita owns gold worth Rs 65.70 lakh. Their immovable property is estimated to be worth Rs 4.68 crore. Amrita’s total wealth is approximately Rs 6.96 crore and their daughter has assets valued at Rs 10.22 lakh.
As Fadnavis prepares to take charge of the state, he has assured the people of Maharashtra that the new government will work tirelessly to fulfill its promises. The swearing-in ceremony will take place tomorrow evening and is expected to be attended by top leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This event signals the beginning of a new phase for Maharashtra under Fadnavis’s leadership.
