New Delhi: There has been a change in the number of voters between Lok Sabha Elections and state Assembly Elections in Maharashtra, Haryana, Jharkhand, and Delhi whether it was in the 2014, 2019, or 2024 elections. Delhi, which went to polls, on February 5, and the results of which are set to be announced on February 8, also witnessed an increase in several electorates as against Lok Sabha elections which were held last year.
As per the Election Commission data, even as there had been changes in number of voters between Lok Sabha Elections and Assembly Elections in three states and the union territory, the differences doesn’t seem to be much.
Difference in the number of voters in numbers and percentage
According to the Election Commission, the number of electorates for Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra in 2014 was 80,798,823, which increased to 3,528,310 for Assembly elections, a rise of 2,729,487 voters. In 2019, the number of voters in Lok Sabha elections increased to 88,676,946, while the same increased to 89,838,267 for Assembly polls the same year. In the same manner, the number of voters in Maharashtra increased to 93,061,760 before Lok Sabha polls, and 97,025,119 voters were increased for Assembly polls, a rise of 3,96,359 votes between Lok Sabha and Assembly polls last year. In terms of percentage, Maharashtra witnessed a 3.38 percent increase in voters between Lok Sabha elections and Assembly polls in 2014, 1.31 percent in 2019, and 4.46 percent in 2024.
In Haryana, the number of voters in Haryana was 16,097,233 in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, which increased to 16, 303,742 voters the same year for Assembly polls. Five years later in 2019, there were 18,057,010 voters in Lok Sabha polls, which saw an increase of 18,386,682 during Assembly polls the same year, witnessing an increase of 3,29,672 voters. Last year, there were 20,187,911 voters in the state, during Lok Sabha Polls which surged to 20,463,841 voters just before Assembly polls.
Talking about percentages, there was a 1.28 percent increase in the number of voters between the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in 2014, a surge of 1.83 percent of voters between both elections in 2019, and an increase of 1.37 percent voters between both elections last year.
Similarly, in Jharkhand, the state had 20,349,796 voters for Lok Sabha in 2014, while 20,852,808 voters were found eligible for polling in Assembly polls the same year. In 2019, there were 22,404,856 voters for the Lok Sabha and 23,058,035 for Assembly polls. The year 2024 also so a rise in the number of voters for Assembly polls as against in Lok Sabha polls. While for Lok Sabha there were 25,877,892 voters, and 26,068,912 eligible voters in the Election Commission’s list for Assembly polls.
In terms of percentage, there was an increase of 2.47 percent in voters in 2014 between Lok Sabha elections and state Assembly elections. Same way, there was an increase of 2.92 percent in voters between both elections in 2019 and an increase of 0.74 percent in 2024.
The same is the case with Delhi, while there were 12,711,164 voters in 2014 for Lok Sabha polls, there were 13,313,295 voters for Assembly elections. In 2019, the number of voters for Lok Sabha polls was 14,327,649, even as there were 13,313,295 for Assembly polls. There were 15,214,638 voters in Delhi for Lok Sabha polls in 2024, which surged to 15,537,634 for Assembly polls. This means there was an increase of 4.74 percent voters between Lok Sabha and Assembly Elections in 2014, a 3.28 percent increase in 2019, and a surge of 2.12 percent this year in Delhi.
