New Delhi: How long will Virat Kohli play for India? This is a perplexing question because as fans, we want him to play for the longest period of time but it all depends on how long his body supports him in the regard. The star player himself has dropped a major hint saying that he would like to continue playing competitive cricket till at least 2027.
Kohli has said that with an aim to complete 20 years with Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), he wishes to be active for 3 more years. Then RCB franchise couple of days back retained the star player for a mammoth fee of Rs 21 crore. Speculations are rife these days about how long the 36-year-old player would continue in top flight cricket after going through a lean patch in then last few years.
Kohli playing for RCB since inception
Virat Kohli has been playing for RCB since IPL’s inception in 2008 and happens to b ethe leading run-scorer in the competition. Kohli has amassed over 8000 runs at an impressive strike rate of 131.97, including eight centuries and 55 half-centuries.
“At the end of this cycle, it is going to be 20 years that I am going to be playing for RCB and that in itself is a very, very special feeling for me,” Kohli told ‘RCB Bold Diaries’ indicating that he aims to continue for at least another three years till 2027.
“I have never thought that I am going to play so many years for one team, but the relationship has truly become special over so many years”, he added.
The star batter also reiterated that he doesn’t see himself playing for any other franchise, saying that he is happy at RCB. RCB will aim to create a strong squad for the upcoming season and his only goal that remains is to win the coveted title at least once.
