India not only won the hearts of cinema lovers with its captivating storyline and compelling performances by the lead cast but also performed exceptionally well at the Box Office. The film garnered widespread acclaim upon its release, along with numerous accolades. But now, years later, the celebrated sports drama has found itself at the center of controversy. Recently, veteran actor Annu Kapoor reportedly raised serious allegations against the makers of the Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan starrer.
The 68-year-old actor told ANI that SRK’s character Kabir Khan was originally based on coach Mir Ranjan Negi. He claimed that the filmmakers intentionally changed the character’s identity to Muslim.
“But in India, they want to show a Muslim as a good character and make fun of a Pandit,” Annu was quoted as saying by the news agency. He further stated, “This is something old, where they use the idea of Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb to put a label on it.”
