Himachal Pradesh rain fury: Woman buried under debris due to flash flood in Lahaul-Spiti

Shimla: A woman was swept away in a flash flood near Sangam Nallah in Kaza, Himachal Pradesh, on Friday. Her body was later recovered by rescue teams. The woman was identified as Yeshe Zangmo.

The flash flood, reported by the District Emergency Operation Centre (DEOC) Lahaul & Spiti, also buried a vehicle under debris. A rescue team, including personnel from IPC 17th Corps and local police, has been deployed to the site. An ambulance and a JCB were also sent to assist in the rescue efforts.

Flash flood in Lahaul-Spiti

The flash flood near Sagnam Nalluh in sub-division Spiti is part of a series of rain-related incidents in Himachal Pradesh. Since the start of the monsoon on June 27, a total of 77 people have died due to various rain-related incidents in the state, as reported by PTI.

This flood follows a recent cloudburst near Shrikhand Mahadev, which triggered flash floods in the Samej, Ganvi, and Kurban regions. This caused a significant rise in the water level of Samej Khud in the Rampur sub-division of Shimla district.

Kullu-Manali Highway washed away

Early on Friday, heavy rainfall caused a major portion of the Kullu-Manali Highway to be washed away. The National Highway 3, a crucial route that connects Chandigarh to Manali, was severely damaged. A large section of the highway fell into the Beas River due to the intense flooding. Videos from the scene show a significant portion of the road destroyed in Kullu Raisan district, about 280 kilometres from Shimla.

Local residents have been seen risking their safety to navigate a narrow stretch of the damaged road beside the Beas River. The Kullu-Manali Highway is essential for the Kullu-Manali Circuit, which includes the Sutlej Trail, Beas Trail, Kullu Valley Trail, and Rohtang Pass, as reported by Times Now.
