Mandi, Himachal Pradesh: Mandi in Himachal Pradesh has also witnessed protests on Friday after allegations of illegal mosque construction. This comes after weeks of protests by right-wing Hindu groups in state capital Shimla over alleged illegal construction of some portion of a mosque in Sanjauli area.
Hundreds of members of Hindu groups hit the street in Mandi at 11 am. Though Muslim side has itself decided to remove illegal portion of the mosque, the right-wing groups decided to go ahead with the protest. Keeping in view the tension, the Mandi administration has decided to impose Section 163 of BNSS (earlier Section 144).
Police deployed around mosque
A huge contingent of police has been deployed in Mandi and barricading have been placed to deter protesters. More police force have been deployed around the mosque along with checking of the vehicles coming to the city.
Protesting on Mandi streets, the Hindu groups have been demanding that the mosque be demolished. Mandi SP Sakshi Verma said police are committed to maintain law and order in the city.
