New Delhi: The Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board (HPSEB) has responded to Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut’s claim that she received a whooping amount of electricity bill of Rs 1 lakh for one month for her new house in Simsa village, Manali. The board has clarified that the bill was outstanding for two months and accused her of paying her electricity bills late constantly.
According to the official statement, “Ms Kangana Ranaut has been consistently paying her monthly bills late. The bills for January and February were paid on March 28, 2025, with a total consumption of 14,000 units. This indicates that her average monthly consumption is significantly high, ranging from 5,000 to 9,000 units.”
The board further mentioned that Ms Ranaut is benefiting from an electricity subsidy supplied by the Himachal Pradesh government. “In the electricity bill for February 2025, Ms Kangana Ranaut received a Rs 700 subsidy,” the statement further says.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has reacted to Ranaut’s claim as “non-serious,” during a media interaction.
In her recent public address, Bollywood actress and Member of Loksabha, Kangana asserted she received a Rs 1 lakh electricity bill despite not living in her Manali house. It is to be noted that she paid her electricity bills for October, November, and December 2024, totalling Rs 82,061, on January 16, 2025. The bill that was issued on March 22, 2025, totalling up to Rs 90,384, covers two months of electricity consumption that includes a previous payment of Rs 32,287.
