Ranchi: JMM leader Hemant Soren will be sworn in as Jharkhand’s Chief Minister for the fourth time on November 26. According to sources, the oath-taking ceremony is expected to be attended by several opposition leaders from INDIA alliance.
Congress leader and leader of opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal and RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav are likely to be present to show their support.
Soren’s return to power was made possible by the success of the coalition led by Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) in the assembly elections. The alliance, which includes the JMM, Congress, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), and CPI-ML, secured a decisive victory, winning 56 out of 81 seats in the assembly.
The JMM emerged as the strongest party in the coalition, securing 34 seats. The Congress followed with 16, while the RJD and CPI-ML won 4 and 2 seats, respectively. This victory has paved the way for a second consecutive term for the alliance in Jharkhand.
In contrast, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) faced a significant setback. It managed to win only 21 seats, marking one of its worst performances in Jharkhand since the state was formed in 2000.
