Badlapur: Akshay Shinde, the accused in the Badlapur case, has been killed in an encounter. According to reports, Akshay shot at API Nilesh More, prompting the police to fire back in self-defence, leading to his death. However, the police have not officially confirmed the incident. After receiving news of the incident, Shinde’s parents reacted strongly, with his mother directly accusing the police and expressing doubts .”My son was killed. He couldn’t even burst a firecracker, how could he fire a gun?” she said.
‘My son isn’t like that’
Shinde’s mother maintained her son’s innocence, insisting he was falsely accused and wouldn’t have continued working if he was guilty. “I was waiting for my son. He can’t do something like that. My son isn’t like that. Someone else committed the crime, but the charge was filed against him. If he had done something like that, he wouldn’t have gone to work.” She pleaded for justice, saying authorities should kill her and her family too. “He was shot and killed. If you’re going to kill us, then do it. Take us to any hospital and finish us too.”
Opposition questions police handling
State opposition leader Vijay Wadettiwar criticised the handling of Akshay Shinde’s death, questioning whether it was an attempt to destroy evidence. He raised concerns about the circumstances, including how Shinde obtained a gun while in police custody. “Was Akshay Shinde’s shooting an attempt to destroy evidence? How did Akshay manage to shoot? Were his hands not tied when he was in police custody? How did he get a gun? How can the police be so careless?” Wadettiwar questioned.
Wadettiwar also highlighted the perceived disparity in actions, noting inaction against the institute’s BJP-linked directors. He demanded a judicial inquiry, citing suspicions over the police’s role in the Badlapur case. “In the Badlapur case, no action is taken against the institute’s directors with links to the BJP, yet today the accused, Akshay Shinde, allegedly shot himself. This is both shocking and suspicious. From the beginning, we have questioned the police’s role in the Badlapur case.” He demanding a judicial inquiry into the matter.
