New Delhi: Shubman Gill played a sensational knock on Day 2 of the third Test match against New Zealand at the Wankhede Cricket Stadium in Mumbai. He missed his century by 10 runs, scoring 90 runs off 146 balls. He stitched a 96-run partnership with Pant to help India fight back in the match.
The Blackcaps bundled out for 235 runs in the first innings. Daryl Mitchell and Will Young stitched a brilliant partnership for the fourth wicket. Ravindra Jadeja picked up 5 wickets and Washington Sundar also took 4 wickets. The Men in Blue lost 4 wickets at Day 1 stumps and were in big trouble but the partnership between Pant and Gill was crucial for Rohit and Co. to avoid a series sweep.
The biggest change in Gill’s batting from the second Test was the way he played the spinners and those small changes in his thrilled the likes of Simon Doull and Sunil Gavaskar. Gill has 805 runs in 10 Test matches this year and is averaging above 50. Team India will face Australia in the five-match Test series and Gill’s improving batting will be key for the Men in Blue and it will be crucial during the run-chase as well in Mumbai.

Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar praised Shubman Gill’s stunning and said that he really cares about Test cricket and wants to succeed in the longer format. He further added that there’s still work to do against left-arm spinners in his batting. He also said that it was great to see that today’s generation also care about Test cricket.
