Civic, agricultural issues top public grievances
This time, voters in Haryana have been voicing their grievances as never before. Most of them relate to civic and agricultural issues. Those campaigning for political parties have had to face searing anger from the public. BJP candidates in Ratia and Hisar assembly constituencies were targeted by the public on Monday and Tuesday.
On Tuesday, during her poll campaign, Sunita Duggal, a former MP and BJP candidate from Ratia, was greeted with protests by farm activists. Members of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Kheti Bachao) voiced their angst and chased Duggal down. She had to recognise the ordeal of the farmers protesting at the Shambhu and Khanauri borders. On Monday night, BJP candidate Dr Kamal Gupta faced a similar public wrath during a public meeting in Badwali Dhani village. As Gupta was addressing a rally, a footwear was hurled at him, which landed on his body. Even though it unsettled him a bit, Gupta didn’t give pause to his speech.
Haryana will witness elections to its 90-seat assembly on October 5. The vote counting will be carried out on October 8.
