New Delhi: If Congress emerges victorious in the Haryana assembly elections on October 8, laddus will be distributed, along with jalebis! The family of Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who may become the next CM, has placed an order for both laddus and jalebis from the popular Maturam Halwai in Gohana, sources said.
When they inch towards victory, jalebis from Maturam Halwai will also be distributed in Rohtak and Delhi, along with the laddus.
After announcement of the poll results, the Hooda family will send a box of jalebis to Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, sources said. This follows Saini and the BJP mocking Rahul Gandhi’s statement that Haryana’s jalebi could turn local jalebi shops into “jalebi factories”, providing employment to many people. After Rahul’s remarks, Congress leaders also shared viral videos of machines making jalebis.
Now, seeing the exit polls which have predicted a massive victory for Congress in the assembly polls, the Congress has planned to take a dig at the BJP, while emphasising on the jalebi theme.
Interestingly, the Hooda family and Congress had already raised concerns over the law and order situation in Haryana by linking it to a robbery incident at Maturam Halwai’s shop before the elections.
CM issue in focus
As the poll results approach, the Congress focus is on the issue of chief ministership. All eyes are on the high command’s next move as the Congress hopes to come back to power after 10 years in the state.
While AICC general secretary and Lok Sabha MP Selja has said the high command will take the final call on who will lead the state should the party win tomorrow, Hooda remarked that the MLAs’ opinion will be taken and the final decision of the central leadership will be acceptable to all.
As per a PTI report, if recent trends are any indication, the Congress, led by president Mallikarjun Kharge, has opted to acknowledge grassroots leaders for chief ministership. If this trend continues, Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who had a say in choosing over 70 of the 90 party candidates in Haryana, would be the choice for the top position, the report added.
