New Delhi: The Central Election Committee of the Congress party has finalised names for about 34 seats for the upcoming assembly elections in Haryana. As per reports, the party has also okayed the names of 22 sitting MLAs. AICC Haryana in-charge, Deepak Babaria, said the final list of candidates is likely to be announced on Wednesday.
According to party sources, former CM Bhupinder Singh Hooda’s name was finalised for Garhi Sampla seat, while party state chief Udaibhan is set get ticket from Hodal assembly seat. Babaria further added that the meeting will continue on Tuesday and discussion about the remaining 41 seats will take place.
“A list of 49 names was presented by the state’s screening committee, out of which 34 have been approved and 15 are pending,” said Babaria.
“The meeting will continue on Tuesday as well and hopefully the final list will be announced on Wednesday,” added Babaria.
Decision on candidature of Vinesh Phogat likely today
There was no discussion on the names of wrestler Vinesh Phogat, Randeepo Surjewala and senior leader Kumari Selja. However, Babaria said that the party is likely to make final decision about contesting wrestler Vinesh Phogat.
Babaria said some names were sent to the review committee and a decision regaridn them is also likely to be taken on Tuesday. Apart from ‘winnability’ factor, those who had not lost elections more than twice, will be an important criteria for deciding the candidates.
Haryana Assembly election date and counting of votes
Last week, the Election Commission (EC) had postponed the Haryana assembly election date to October 5 from October 1, over a centuries-old festival of the Bishnoi community. The counting of votes and results for Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana assembly polls will declared on October 8.
