Chandigarh: The tussle going on in the BJP over the distribution of tickets ahead of the Assembly Elections in Haryana still continues. This despite the meeting of the party’s Central Election Committee. The meeting however remained unfruitful as the BJP has so far not even released the first list of candidates for the state.
On the one hand the party is being forced to rethink ticket distribution on several Assembly seats due to leaders from other parties joining the BJP, on the other hand doubts about tickets being denied to some has led them to adopt a rebellious attitude. This is creating major problems for the BJP. In fact, senior BJP leader and former minister Rao Narbir Singh has openly declared at a rally that if the party fails to give him a ticket, he will fight on a Congress ticket.
Amit Shah, JP Nadda hold meeting to review tickets distribution
Given the situation in Haryana, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Health Minister JP Nadda held a meeting with the leaders of Haryana Core Group, in-charge, co-in-charge and election in-charge at the party’s central office extension on Monday. The leaders reportedly discussed the candidates for several seats in the state.
Haryana state election in-charge, Dharmendra Pradhan, state election co-in-charge Biplab Kumar Deb, Haryana state president Mohan Lal Badoli, Union ministers Manohar Lal Khattar, Rao Inderjit Singh, Satish Punia and Surendra Nagar joined the meeting with the 2 Union Ministers.
Names of some candidates being reconsidered: Sources
According to sources, the names of some of the candidates which had been finalized in the Central Election Committee meeting held on August 29, will be reconsidered. They added that several top leaders of the BJP in Haryana are not satisfied with the names of candidates released for some seats. Some of the leaders have even expressed their dissatisfaction regarding the issue to the top brass.
Given the political situation in Haryana, the BJP high command does not want to anger any of the senior party leaders of the state. Sources said that in order to keep its flock together the party may adopt a positive stance on the demand of some of the big leaders for tickets for their families or supporters.
Haryana will vote on October 5. Earlier it was supposed to go to polls on October 1, but the date was postponed because of a festival in the state on the day. The results of the elections are scheduled to be declared on October 8.
