Dehradun: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed visit to the Mukhba temple, the winter seat of Maa Ganga, and Harshil, is expected to give special recognition to traditional local products like Uttarkashi’s red rice, winter clothes, apple, and Rajma (Rajmash).
Although these local products have their own recognition, preparations are underway for the branding of these products with the help of PM Modi’s proposed visit to Harshil.
Winter clothes of Dunda & Bagori
The local product of Dunda and Bagori will be in focus during the PM’s proposed visit. The tribal people Jad and Kinnauri, who reside in Dunda and Bagori villages, are associated with the winter clothes of Dunda and Bagori. Rearing sheep and making clothes from their wools is the main source of their livelihood. They mainly prepare sweaters and mufflers from the sheep wools. The winter clothes are likely to be presented to PM Modi.
Branding of red rice
Under one district one product, the red rice of Uttarkashi is also included. The administration will organize an exhibition displaying red rice under the one district one product scheme at Harshil. In this exhibition, the red rice produced in Rawai valley of Uttarkashi, especially Rama Sirai and Kamal Sirai of Purola, will be displayed.
Rajma to be displayed at the exhibition
The Rajma of Harshil has a distinct identity in the state as well as country. It is also expected to be included in the food menu. Preparations are underway to ensure a place for the Rajma of Uttarkashi in the exhibition to be organized under the one district one project. Harshil’s Rajma cooks faster than normal Rajma.
Uttarkashi’s apple
The Uttarkashi district ranks first in the apple production in the state. 20,000 to 30,000 tonnes of apples are produced in Uttarkashi every year. It will be helpful for the state government for the apples’ branding in a new way with the arrival of PM Modi. It will directly benefit the farmers associated with the production of the apple in Uttarkashi district.
