New Delhi: India failed to make it to the T20 World Cup 2024 semifinals recently but skipper Harmanpreet Kaur did manage to make it to the T20 World Cup team of the tournament. The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Monday that the Indian skipper is the lone player from the country to make it to the T20 WC team of the tournament.
The showpiece event came to an end on Sunday with New Zealand beating South Africa by 32 runs to clinch the title for the first time. Harmanpreet ended the marquee event with an sensational average of 150 after being dismissed for just once in four innings. The star Indian player smashed unbeaten half-centuries against both Sri Lanka and Australia.
Team to be led by Laura Wolvaardt
The team of the tournament would be led by South Africa’s Laura Wolvaardt and also includes the likes of Amelia Kerr, Deandra Dottin and Megan Schutt. The 12th player of the lineup has been chosen as Kiwi spinner Eden Carson. The T20 World Cup champions New Zealand and runners-up South Africa are represented by three players apiece while players from India, England, West Indies, Australia and Bangladesh are also selected in the team.
Kerr claimed 15 wickets in the tournament – the most by any player at a single edition of the big ICC event and also scored 135 runs, top-scoring for the White Ferns with 43 runs in the final clash.
