New Delhi: Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir blasted former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman and commentator Ramiz Raja for his ‘insulting’ remarks against Pakistan skipper Shan Masood following his team’s 9-wicket victory in the 3rd Test against England in Rawalpindi on Saturday. Pakistan bagged their second win in a row in the decider to come from behind and clinch the series 2-1.
Masood would have expected some praise for his captaincy and his team’s stellar effort after the series victory against the Ben Stokes-led side. However, the Pakistan skipper was in for a rude surprise as he was taunted by Raja during a post-match interview. Raja asked Masood about Pakistan’s six straight losses in Test cricket under his captaincy before their back-to-back wins against England at home.
“Aapne 6 losses in a row kaise achieve kiya? (How did you achieve six losses in a row?),” Raja asked Masood while also taking a dig at him, calling the series victory against England a ‘fluke’. Masood handled the situation well but Raja’s comments didn’t go down well with many in the Pakistan cricket fraternity as the former PCB chief was slammed on social media for his absurd questions.
Amir too lashed out at Raja, calling him out for his behaviour against the home captain after winning an important series. Amir didn’t mince his words as he urged Raja to behave like a ‘literate’ and try to give credit where due. The pacer also slammed the former PCB chief for ‘making fun’ of the Pakistan Test captain during the post-match interview.
“You should celebrate the series win. There is a series-winning captain sitting next to you. You should have asked him about the win, next plans. But you are making fun of him. Have some respect. You are literate people and you should behave like one as well (padhe likhon wali harkaten kiya karen). Where the credit is due, you should give it. I was feeling so bad for Shan. Ramiz has been doing on-air duties for so long now and he has no idea what to ask a winning captain,” Amir said in a video that has gone viral on social media.
