Gurugram: To enhance road safety in Gurugram, the Gurugram Traffic Police imposed over 26,500 fines during a month-long enforcement campaign aimed at curbing traffic violations. From September 1 to September 30, the initiative primarily focused on penalising riders without helmets and motorists engaging in reckless driving. Meanwhile, the operation resulted in a substantial collection of Rs 2.47 crore in fines.
A whopping 23,687 of the fines were issued for riding without helmets, generating Rs 2.27 crore. In addition, 388 motorists were penalised for dangerous driving, contributing Rs 20.10 lakh to the total revenue from fines. The Gurugram Traffic Police emphasised that this campaign is part of a larger strategy to reduce road accidents and improve compliance with traffic laws throughout the city.

Riding without helmet remains the most significant concern
Helmetless riding remains a significant concern, directly correlating with severe injuries in accidents. Reckless and negligent driving also poses serious risks to public safety. A spokesperson for the police highlighted the campaign’s importance, stating, “We are committed to making Gurugram’s roads safer and reducing accidents. This crackdown is one of the steps we’re taking to enforce rules that protect lives.”

In conjunction with the enforcement measures, the Gurugram Traffic Police conducted 82 awareness programs throughout September, engaging nearly 13,860 individuals. These initiatives, held in schools, colleges, and public areas, focused on educating the public about the necessity of adhering to traffic regulations. Participants were encouraged to wear helmets, practice lane discipline, and avoid reckless behavior. Authorities continue to urge citizens to prioritize road safety to prevent accidents and fatalities.
