New Delhi: The fight against illegal drugs in India continues as Gujarat police, in a series of recent raids, uncovered a network of drug trafficking operations, seizing massive quantities of narcotics and bringing down key players in the illicit trade.
On Sunday, the Gujarat Special Operations Group (SOG) and Surat police conducted a raid on a factory named “Avasar Enterprise” in Ankleshwar’s GIDC area, seizing 427 kg and 141 gm of methamphetamine (MD) drugs valued at Rs 14.10 lakh. One individual was arrested in connection with the case. The seized drugs were sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for confirmation, and further investigation is underway.
This latest seizure comes hot on the heels of several other major drug busts in Gujarat and Delhi, showcasing the collaborative efforts of various law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking and protect the health and security of citizens.
Weeks prior, a joint operation by Gujarat and Delhi police resulted in the seizure of over 500 kg of cocaine, valued at Rs 5,000 crore, from the Avkar Drugs Limited factory in Ankleshwar. This operation, based on intel from a central intelligence agency, targeted an international narcotics cartel smuggling cocaine into Delhi. The consignment also included 40 kg of hydroponic marijuana, a first-time seizure in the national capital. Four individuals were arrested for their alleged involvement in this international drug trafficking ring.
Just days later, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) seized MD drugs and raw materials valued at Rs1,814 crore from a factory in Bhopal.
In another significant bust, Delhi police uncovered 200 kilograms of drugs, valued at Rs2,000 crore in international markets, hidden in open packs of namkeen at a closed shop in the Ramesh Nagar area. The combined value of these two seizures exceeded Rs7,000 crore.
Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi lauded the efforts of the law enforcement agencies, emphasizing their critical role in combating drug trafficking and safeguarding society. “This achievement showcases the tireless efforts of our law enforcement agencies in combating drug trafficking and abuse. Their collaborative efforts are crucial in safeguarding the health and security of our society,” said Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghvi.
