New Delhi: In yet another attack on police stations in Punjab, a grenade was thrown at the Fatehgarh Churiyan Bypass police post in Amritsar on Monday evening. The sudden explosion triggered panic in the area. The grenade, reportedly hurled from a bridge above, exploded inside the post. There has been no reports of any casualties as of yet.
Police tried to chase the assailants but failed to capture them. According to eyewitnesses, the police officers, frightened by the attack, locked the police post and fled from the spot. Police officials are yet to issue any statement on the incident.
Security heightened in the area
Security concerns have been heightened in the area after the attack. Authorities have remained tight-lipped, not confirming or denying these suspicions. A large number of police personnel, including senior officers, later arrived at the site to investigate the matter. Forensic teams are conducting a thorough examination of the area.
Investigation agencies suspect that the attack may have been carried out by the associates of Khalistani terrorist Happy Passia. Based in abroad, Passia is also known as Jeevan Fauji. The group has been behind several attacks on police posts and stations in Punjab, and the Punjab Police have recently arrested several of their associates.
Repeated attack on police stations in Punjab
It should be noted that after repeated attacks on police stations and posts in Punjab, instructions were given to increase security at all police stations and posts in the state. As a result, walls of police stations, especially in Amritsar, Tarn Taran, and Gurdaspur, are being raised.
