New Delhi: Panic gripped Greater Noida after news of the deaths of more than a dozen cows in a gaushala (cowshed) spread like wildfire on Saturday. Cow protectors and vigilantes got information about the cow deaths and rushed to the spot. They created ruckus at the site. The administrative officials also reached the place and launched an investigation into the matter.
The SDM of Dadri said that only two cows have died, while the cow protectors and vigilantes claimed that they performed the last rites for four cows on Saturday.
Dead cows and their skeletons were found on the vacant land of a gaushala in the Girjapur Khandera village of the Kotwali Jarcha area. The condition of the carcasses was so bad that crows and animals were seen pecking at them. The cause behind the death of cows is yet to be ascertained.
Cause of cow deaths yet to be ascertained
There are suspicions that the cows may have died due to hunger and thirst. The government allocates lakhs of rupees every month to the gaushala for the care of the cows. Despite such a massive allocation of funds, the cows are dying, a cow protector said. Cow protectors also claimed that they performed the last rites for four cows on Saturday.
After the deaths of the cows in the gaushala, administrative officials, including the SDM of Dadri, ACP-2 Greater Noida, tehsildar, and the station in-charge, visited the site to take stock of the situation. They are currently probing the matter. A team of veterinarians has also arrived at the gaushala to conduct post-mortem examination of the cows.
In the gaushala, several cows were found in a severely sick and deplorable state. SDM of Dadri Anuj Nehra pointed out that only two cows have died. Due to heavy rainfall, the remains of the cows were visible since the ground is public land, and the dead cows are buried there. This is why the remains are visible at the site, he added.
