Lucknow: In welcome news for commuters in Uttar Pradesh and the rest of the country, the state government is looking to invest Rs 50,000 crore for seven new expressways. These new projects will connect as many as 30 districts with a vast expressway network in the state.
Cleared by the state cabinet, the combined length of these projects will be 866 kilometres. The state, at present, has the largest expressway network in the country, which is either operational or under development. The projects will be undertaken by the UP Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA).
New expressways to interlink 56 districts
The new expressways will interlink link 56 districts in the state with world-class networks, a Business Standard report said. The network will help in connecting the Lucknow-State Capital Region with the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR). Once done, these expressways will provide seamless connectivity.
Know about seven new expressways
The seven new expressways include- Jhansi Link Expressway (100 km), Chitrakoot Link Expressway (120 km), Vindhya Expressway (320 km), Jewar Link Expressway (76 km), Agra Lucknow Expressway-Purvanchal Expressway Link Expressway (60 km), Vindhya Purvanchal Link Expressway (100 km), and Agra Lucknow Expressway-Ganga Expressway Link Expressway (90 km). At the moment there are five expressways in the state, which are operational and pass through two dozen districts.
These expressways are the Agra-Lucknow Expressway (302 km), Yamuna Expressway (165 km), Bundelkhand Expressway (296 km) Gorakhpur Link Expressway (91 km), and Purvanchal Expressway (340 km), Apart from them, Ganga Expressway (594 km), is expected to be ready by March-April this year. The total length of the expressway in Uttar Pradesh is 1,788 km. Important, the total length of expressways will be 2,654 km after these seven expressways come into being.
Apart from these expressways, the state government is also looking to develop the Prayagraj-Chitrakoot Development Region and Varanasi-Vindhya Development Region.
