New Delhi: Two goods trains derailed in two different incidents in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar on Wednesday evening, affecting train movement on their respective routes as damaged coaches lay on tracks while Railway officials carried out restoration work.
In Uttar Pradesh’s Vrindavan, 20 coal-loaded wagons of a goods train travelling from Jhansi to Sundergarh derailed in Vrindavan on the down route, bringing the trains moving on the up and down line to a complete halt.
Senior officials of Railways have arrived at the spot and restoration work is underway to clear the derailed wagons from the tracks but the process is expected to take a considerable amount of time, officials said.
Routes of trains falling on the stretch have been affected by the derailment. Currently, only one of the routes is functioning.
Train derails in Bihar
Four wagons of a mechanical rake derailed near Narayanpur Anant yard in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district on Wednesday, disrupting railway services, officials said. No injuries were reported in the incident, which occurred around 5 pm near point 67 of the yard in the Sonpur division of the East Central Railway.
“The derailment has disrupted rail traffic on the route. Mechanical and technical teams are working to restore services,” East Central Railway CPRO Sharswati Chandra told PTI.
List of trains diverted
Following the accident, more than 10 trains had to be diverted, with some being short-terminated. Among the diverted trains were the Dibrugarh-New Delhi Rajdhani Express, Patna-Jaynagar Express, Amritsar-Jaynagar Shaheed Express, Darbhanga-Amritsar Jannayak Express, and Harihar Express.
