Ahmedabad: In good news for commuters across Gujarat and the rest of the country, the government is looking to develop two new expressways in the state. The two new expressways will be constructed on the Dwarka–Somnath and Deesa–Pipavav routes.
As per DeshGujarat, the expressways will be developed at the cost of Rs 1,020 crore. The allocation for the same was proposed in this year’s budget. Apart from these, 12 new high-speed corridors will also be developed under the Garvi Gujarat High-Speed Corridor project. The project will span over 1,367 km.
Namo Shakti Expressway and Somnath–Dwarka Expressway
According to Gujarat Finance Minister Kanubhai Desai, the Banaskantha–Saurashtra coastal connecting Deesa–Pipavav highway will be developed as the Namo Shakti Expressway. Another expressway will be also developed as the Somnath–Dwarka Expressway. This expressway will connect Ahmedabad–Rajkot–Porbandar.
Apart from these, airport expansion projects have also been planned in Vadodara, Surat, Porbandar, and Bhavnagar, in collaboration with the Centre. A new greenfield airport will also come up in Dahot, which will help in improving air connectivity in the region.
Know about the Ganga Expressway
Last month, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath chaired a in Prayagraj, where he approved the long-anticipated extension of the Ganga Expressway. The expressway would link the Purvanchal Expressway and the Bundelkhand Expressway and also help in connecting all districts of the state.
Earlier planned as a six-lane highway, it is being now considered for an eight-lane expressway. It will cover Prayagraj, Mirzapur, Bhadohi, Varanasi, Chandauli and Ghazipur. Ghazipur will also connect Purvanchal Expressway, which will help provide a direct route from Western Uttar Pradesh and the National Capital Region (NCR) to Bihar. The Ganga Expressway project will also link Chitrakoot to Prayagraj via the Bundelkhand Expressway. The initiative will help in boosting the connectivity in the Vindhya-Kashi region.
