Ayodhya: In good news for the people of Ayodhya, Laddoo of Hanuman Garhi, the city’s jaggery, Kharau (wooden footwear), Chandan Tika and Khurchan Peda (a type of sweet) are also all set to get Geographical Indication (GI) tag.
According to a report published in ‘Amar Ujala newspaper, GI expert Dr Rajnikant has submitted an application with the GI-based office in Chennai regarding this, which has been accepted. Sharing further details, Dr. Rajnikanth said that applications for the above-said items have been cleared through technical and legal procedures. These items will get the GI tag within a few months, he added further.
Items to increase the pride of Ayodhya and the rest of the country
After getting the tag, these items will be considered as the original items of the holy city wherever they are sent and will also increase the pride of the country, he said. Close to ten thousand people get direct benefits once these items get GI tags, the paper reported further. The city is known for sweets offered to Hindu deities. As per the details shared in the application, Ayodhya’s Khurchan Peda is a khoya-based milk product, which is made in the city and is popular across the country. It is one of the traditional sweets in India, made from condensed milk.
People wearing Kharau since ancient years
People of Ayodhya wore Kharau since ancient years. Different sizes of Khadau can be found across Ayodhya starting from two inches to those for adults. People not only purchase the items for Puja purposes but also to wear them. In January this year, Ayodhya’s famous Laddoo from Hanuman Garhi received the GI tag. The step was taken to protect the identity of the sweet.
