The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) have launched an inspection drive at momo stalls across the city after a recent case of food poisoning.
On Tuesday, officials launched a city wide inspection drive at 110 momo stalls to check food standards and hygiene. At least 69 samples were collected and were sent for testing. Authorities educated food handlers about essential hygiene and sanitation practices to bring down contamination risks.
This comes after a 33-year-old woman died and 50 others fell sick and were hospitalised after consuming momos at a stall named WOW Hot Momos and Delhi Hot Momos in Nandi nagar, Banjara Hills area of the city.
Food samples from momo stall sent to lab:
Food safety officials at GHMC with the help of Banjara Hills police traced the vendor, who was operating under two names without an FSSAI license and the food was being prepared in unhygienic conditions.
Food samples were collected and sent to state food laboratory for the purpose of analysis and orders were also issued to stop the business operations.
Further, GHMC officials also visited Tanvir and Swathi hospitals to speak to the 13 victims of food poisoning at Delhi Hot Momos stall. Officials spoke to the victims and doctors to get the full picture of the incident.
