New Delhi: The property dealer from Ghaziabad, whose charred remains were discovered in a Toyota Fortuner SUV on Tuesday night, was not killed by the fire, police have confirmed. Investigations have revealed that Sanjay Yadav was strangled to death, allegedly by his two friends, Vishal and Jeet, using a dog leash, following a beer party. The suspects have been arrested.
The inquiry has disclosed that the accused stole Yadav’s jewellery, placed his body in the SUV, and then set it ablaze. The burnt-out vehicle was found in a forested area in Dadri on Monday night, with the body inside later identified as Yadav. According to reports, Yadav’s family said that he had gone to meet his friends Vishal Rajput and Jeet Choudhary, and they suspected the pair had murdered him. As a result, a case was registered, and the suspects were taken into custody.
Accused strangled Yadav using a dog collar
During interrogation, Vishal and Jeet confessed to killing Yadav in order to rob him of his money and valuables. They revealed that Yadav had visited them on Monday evening, where the three shared beers. Later, Vishal and Jeet allegedly strangled Yadav using a dog collar and stole his jewellery. They then placed his body in the back seat of the SUV and used petrol to set the vehicle on fire.
Officers have recovered cash, two gold rings, a bracelet, and a gold chain from the suspects. The dog collar used in the murder has also been retrieved. Dadri police have filed an FIR under sections 103(1) (murder), 309(6) (robbery), 238 (destruction of evidence), 3(5) (criminal acts carried out by multiple individuals with a common intention), and 317(2) (handling stolen property) of the BNS.
Authorities also suspect that Yadav was physically assaulted before being murdered, as internal injuries were found on his body.
