New Delhi: The grand old party launched a two-day special event commemorating the centenary of Mahatma Gandhi’s presidency of the Indian National Congress in 1924 in Belagavi (formerly Belgaum) and gathered for a Congress Working Committee (CWC) on Thursday.
On the first day of the event, the Congress party announced major internal restructuring plans and reaffirmed its commitment to Gandhian values. In the CWC meeting, the party leadership highlighted a renewed focus on organisational modification for all levels, from the grassroots booth level to the highest seats of leadership.
Speaking on the occasion, Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal announced the party’s future plan to make organisational changes in 2025, with a clear goal to give space to capable leaders at all levels. “We decided to launch a massive year-long political campaign. In 2025, the Congress party will undertake an organizational revamping program at every level. Drawing inspiration from this conference, we will embark on the “Jay Bapu, Jay Bhim, Jay Samvidhan” campaign from December 27, 2024, to January 2026, featuring a continuous series of padayatras, village, block, district, and state-level rallies,” he said.
This initiative, dubbed “Jai Bapu Jai Bhim Jai Samandep,” will unfold over 13 months, encompassing numerous activities, including meetings, rallies, padayatras (foot marches), and seminars. “We will bring about change from the booth to the top. We will make significant changes in terms of organization,” he said.
“We will give opportunity to those who have the leadership. Jai Bapu Jai Bhim Jai Sammandeep program will be held till January 2026. We will hold continuous meetings, rallies, padayatras, and seminars for 13 months,” he added.
Venugopal also spoke about the ongoing debate surrounding alleged attacks on the Indian Constitution, stating that the Congress will strongly condemn these attacks through large-scale public gatherings and meetings. He further announced that an AICC conference is scheduled for April in Gujarat, indicating a sustained momentum of activity even during ongoing campaign efforts.
Senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh echoed the emphasis on Gandhian principles asserting that the party will follow the path laid out by Mahatma Gandhi. Remarkably, the party also announced that no CWC meetings will be held between February and November 2025.
