Four associates of Landa Harike gang have been arrested by Punjab Police following an encounter in Tarn Taran district. Two shooters were shot in leg in the exchange of fire between the accused and the police.
On December 22, two shooters fired gunshots at the gate of one Veer Singh, a resident of Ruriwala in Tarn Taran, and demanded an extortion of Rs 50 lakhs after alleged instructions from fugitive gangsters Lakhbir Singh alias Landa Harike and Yadwinder Singh alias Yaada.
Shooters fired at police party
Acting on technical and human intelligence, police identified the two shooters and a trap was laid to arrest them. During the operation, the shooters fired at the police party inviting retaliation from the police. Yadwinder Singh and Kuldeep Singh alias Laddu, both residents of Village Ruriwala, Tarn Taran, were injured in police firing.
A total of four accused have been arrested by the police. The cops have also seized one pistol (.32 bore) along with live cartridges that were used in the incident.
Police identify four accused
The arrested accused are identified as Yadwinder Singh alias Yaada, from Ruriwala, Kuldeep Singh alias Laddu, also from Ruriwala, Prabhdeep Singh, from Dhun Dhai Wala village, and Pawandeep Singh, from Sarhali Kalan. Pawandeep is said to be a Punjab policeman with ASI rank. His pistol was allegedly used in the crime. During preliminary investigation, it was found that Pawandeep is an addict and had mortgaged his pistol to the shooters.
All the four accused have been booked under various sections including 308(4) and 35(2)
Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Chohla Sahib police station in Tarn Taran. Further probe is underway in the case.
