Patna: Four kanwariyas were killed and several others injured after they were run over by a speeding vehicle in the Banka district of Bihar late last night, police said. The accident led to chaos in the area as angry locals protested on the road over the deaths.
The accident occurred when a group of kanwariyas travelled to the Jast Gaur Nath Mahadev Temple to offer gangajal collected from the Sultanganj district. They were hit by a truck vehicle on the road, killing at least 4 of them of ni spot and injuring around 11.
Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Bipin Bihari said four people died in the accident following which a law and order situation arose in the area as angry villagers protested and set ablaze a police vehicle but the situation is under control now.
Meanwhile, the injured have been shifted to a hospital and post-mortem of the deceased is underway. An investigation has been launched to ascertain the identity of the accused driver and the truck.
Police personnel have also been deployed in the area to avoid any untoward incident. The situation is reported to be peaceful so far.
