Patna: Osama Shahab, son of the late Mohammad Shahabuddin, the former MP from Siwan, Bihar, is set to officially join the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Sunday. A press conference to mark his induction into the party will be held at 10 Circular Road, Rabri Devi’s residence, organised by RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav.
Osama’s entry into politics has been anticipated for some time. Known for his controversies, he has previously faced legal trouble and was imprisoned in connection with a shooting incident in Motihari. The Shahab family has a strong political background; Osama’s father, Mohammad Shahabuddin, was an RJD MP from Siwan, while his mother, Hina Shahab, previously contested for the Siwan Lok Sabha seat on an RJD ticket.
Osama recently met both Tejashwi Yadav and Lalu Prasad
In the lead-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, RJD offered Hina Shahab the opportunity to run from Siwan, but she declined, opting instead to contest as an independent. However, Osama’s recent decision to join RJD signals the family’s continued association with the party. Sources indicate that Hina Shahab will also attend the press conference marking her son’s induction, and Osama recently met both Tejashwi Yadav and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav.
As Bihar approaches its upcoming assembly elections, Osama’s entry into RJD has sparked speculation that the party may consider him as a candidate. With his family’s strong ties to RJD, his candidacy could be a strategic move for the party. Although Hina Shahab’s decision to run independently in 2024 indicated a rift, this recent development shows the unpredictable nature of political alliances in Bihar.
