New Delhi: People across north India woke up to dropped visibility on Friday as a thick layer of fog engulfed the region. The fog raised the pollution level, and the Air Quality Index in the Delhi NCR region settled between the “poor” and “very poor” categories in the morning.
The low visibility conditions also disrupted flight and rail movement across the region as multiple airlines issued advisories for passengers to plan their travel to the airport with sufficient time and to keep checking flight status before arriving at the airport.
Cold Weather Conditions to Persist
According to data from the IMD over the past 24 hours, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 16 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal, and a minimum of 7.6 degrees Celsius. Fog is expected to persist in Delhi until January 8, with light rain forecast for January 6.
As of Friday morning, the temperature in Delhi stood at 9.6 degrees Celsius, marking the fifth consecutive cold day for the National Capital.
