Aligarh: A mother and her 5-month-old son were among five people killed in a horrific crash between a double-decker bus and a truck on the Yamuna Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh on Wednesday morning. 15 people were also injured in the accident.
The accident occurred in the wee hours in the Tappal police station area. The sleeper bus, travelling from Azamgarh to Delhi, rammed into a truck ahead of it. The impact of the crash was so great that the bus was wrecked, trapping passengers inside.
Preliminary reports said the overloaded truck was carrying glass which may have contributed to the higher number of casualties. Police officials reached the spot and rushed the injured to the Kailash Hospital in Jewar where five of them succumbed. Some of the 15 injured are in critical condition, police said.
Police have sent the bodies to the mortuary for postmortem examination. Three of the deceased have been identified, while two remain unidentified. The bus, operated by Krishna Travels, a company based in Faizabad, was involved in the incident. An investigation has been launched into the incident.
