Hyderabad: At least 50 people were injured and are being treated at Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital in the city after multiple firecracker accidents on Thursday, October 31.
The hospital has set up 100 extra beds as a measure to manage the influx of patients, reports said.
Around 15 people were given first aid and were discharged immediately, and one person was admitted to the critical care unit.
Meanwhile, Osmania General Hospital and Gandhi Hospital are also treating burn injuries from firecracker related incidents.
In anticipation of burn injury cases during Diwali, emergency wards of both hospitals have reinforced more doctors and paramedics.
Air quality dips in Hyderabad:
The city is witnessing a noticeable dip in air quality as pollution levels reach the ‘severe’ category, a day after Diwali.
The decline in air quality is also caused by increase in vehicular movement and expanded industrial activity at large but the decline in the Air Quality Index (AQI) over the last day can be attributed to the fireworks, introducing pollutants into the atmosphere. Hyderabad on Friday morning recorded an AQI of 171 which is classified as ‘poor’.
While some neighbourhoods were less polluted than the others, data suggests that no neighbourhood in the city was experiencing even ‘moderate’ air quality this morning.
